Investment climate in Czech Republic
Czech Republic is one of the most successful transition economies in terms of attracting foreign direct investment. Over 130,000 Czech firms across all sectors are supported by foreign capital. Since 1993, more than USD 50 billion in FDI has been recorded (according to www.czechinvest.org data).
Czech Republic became a member state of the European Union on 1 May 2004. As a result, EU entities can in general engage in business activities in Czech Republic based on either the Freedom to Provide Services or Freedom of Establishment.
The country offers a multilingual, highly skilled, educated and productive workforce. It combines an outstanding level of general education with strong science and engineering disciplines. Technical education in the Czech Republic has a long tradition and enjoys a strong reputation around the world, while the number of fluent speakers of foreign languages has significantly increased in the last decade. 95% of secondary school students study English, and according to the last Eurobarometer survey, 61% of Czechs are able to speak a foreign language (predominantly English or German).
Foreign direct investment has been steadily increasing over the last years. The first thing that Czech Republic can offer to investors is skilled labor force, then comes the high level of education and European mentality, good infrastructure and of course geographical position – Czech Republic is located in the heart of Europe.
Many economic analysts predict that, as time goes by, the Czech economy could follow the lead of countries like Ireland and Denmark, whose stable economic climate and highly skilled workforce ensure the massive amounts of foreign investment.
Investors can make significant cost savings while investing in Czech Republic. Despite rising wages, Czechs salaries are still about one fourth of what they are in Western Europe.
Additional information about investment conditions in the Czech Republic can be obtained on the pages of the state investment agency CzechInvest(www.czechinvest.org).
